I met a wonderful friend a few years back named Tara Guerard. She is an amazing event planner and author from Charleston, South Carolina. She approached me at a bridal show in Nashville and asked me if I would be interested in designing a cake for a couple whose wedding will be in Alabama. I immediately said yes. I was so excited. I traveled to Alabama and met with the couple and her parents along with Tara and her assistants Kate and Elizabeth to do the tasting. They chose orange dreamsicle with vanilla buttercream and white chocolate fondant. The couples’ letter press invitation from Tara’s company, The Lettered Olive, was used as the inspiration for the design of the cake and the custom ink was used for the color scheme for all the piping and applique work.

I used the flower motif from the invitation as inspiration for the design on each of the tiers. The print on the inside of the invitation envelope was replicated on the opposite tiers piped in royal icing. This was a beautiful wedding and I want to personally thank Tara and all their staff for welcoming us into their family that day.

Oh and by the way, this wedding, including the cake was featured in the first issue of Southern Living Weddings!!! Now that is what I call the icing on the cake!!
